I read all kinds of books on parenting. Okay, maybe not "read" per se, but they are around and I do spend a lot of time with my nose in them, not to mention my feet, knees and elbows. Clearly, I'm an expert.
So much of an expert in fact, I don't take days or weeks to be done with them either. Sometimes I tear pages out and bend the covers in unappealing ways. It just shows I'm really into my material. But that's hardly the point; read on.
A question I've heard asked is something about toddlers and drinking, I forget exactly. Whatever the question is, the answer is "Yes. Kick them kids into high gear. Let 'em drink whatever they want." And to prove my point, I'm starting now with a few of my favorites.
Milk -
What a treat. I'm not sure what part of the cow this stuff comes from but I love it. Now maybe it's because I drank half my body weight in a single setting, and maybe it's because my people are from the wrong part of the world, but something just made me lactose intolerant. Maybe tolerance isn't the right concept. I dig the stuff, it just dredges me something fierce from tummy to tush. No fun.
Lactose-Free Milk - Now ever since my whole milk debacle went down, I've been a soy man. Not literally made of soy mind you, but it's my milk of choice. I had never thought of beans to be particularly milky, but that just goes to show how little I do know. The problem I had with the lactose-free milk was that I'd just downed a gallon of regular, so this stuff didn't agree with me either.
Pedialite - Oh man, that's so much better. After all that dairy I needed some electrolytes. Granted, a Big Gulp of electrolytes may have been a bit excessive, but I ain't about moderation, baby.
Apple Juice - I have no opinion. All I know is I'm about to burst and my diaper outweighs me two to one. I like this stuff, I suppose. I know normally it's one of my favorites but, today I just don't know. I'm not feeling right anymore. Too much fluid, me thinks.
So there you go. In reflection I should probably retract my opening remarks by saying that I was "probably wrong." Maybe toddlers should be watched with their beverages after all… though maybe I just need great big tippy cups. Hm, worth a try.
