Even Dominic takes time out to sneeze the flowers. |
The days are getting longer -- a phenomenon I still struggle to grasp -- and along with the longer days has come a general warming trend as well. Don't just take it from me though, check out the flowers in bloom, the gorgeous light of the day, and my periodic moments of sweating down the small of my back to the crack of my backside. Oh my, spring is in full swing, or vice-versa, because you just can't be sure any longer.
We had an afternoon with nothing good scheduled on the roster, so we took a bunch of time to wander around hither and therefore, and there was just no telling where we'd end up. Our latest car had a navigation system, so we plugged in our desire to see a touristy destination, and it headed us up towards Bruce Lee's gravesite.
The gravesite was closed, but the adjacent city park, Volunteer Park, was open as could be, and welcomed us with gates agaping for our frolicsome delight. We headed straight for the conservatory to take in the sights of the exotic flowers, giant cacti and assorted other delights, but on account of it being a school day, and already after 4:00pm, it too was closed.
That was a minor disappointment, but as a gaggle of minors, we didn't mind it so much. There's so much to take in from without that being within the confines of the park alone was half-enough to please our collectively stricken fancies, so we wandered the lawns and enjoyed what was out there for us.
It made me realize two very important things. First I realized that, with springtime comes the dawn of new life, of warming beauty and of the miraculously magical fancy that is God's everyday creatures. Secondly, it made me realize that school runs too late in the day, since we can't make it outside on weekdays.
I know I may sound petty or juvenile, but I'm a petty juvenile on my best day, so let's move past that part of it and just be glad I appreciate the natural beauty of flowers sufficiently to abstain from ripping them up by their roots, content in their placid perfection to observe them where they live and let them be at that.

Above - Dominic took a minute or ten to check out the array of lovely flowers, but we were more worried we'd lose him amongst the petals.
